Join us for a special weekend amplifying the work of acclaimed playwright Luis Alfaro! Experience readings of his powerful pieces, and take part in an exclusive free workshop on adaptation, led by Luis himself. This workshop highly encourages BIPOC artists to participate while remaining open to all writers, from students to emerging and experienced storytellers. Attend all events or curate your own journey—join us for everything or drop in for the moments that speak to you most!
*Please note that attendance to BOTH days of the writing workshop is required to participate in that offering.

Teatro Vista Productions (TVP) and UIC School of Theatre and Music, are proud to partner with The Understudy Coffee and Books and Bramble Theatre Co. to kick-start our Ofrenda Weekend with Luis Alfaro with a special reading of Electricidad. Featuring TVP Artistic Collective members, UIC alums, and members of the Chicago Latine theatre community, this event brings Alfaro’s powerful reimagining of Electra to life through the lens of Chicano gang culture and explores themes of family, fate, and revenge. Join us for an evening of powerful storytelling, reflection, and community.

Let’s gather on Saturday morning to celebrate our Latine theatre history over coffee and sweet bread. This is a space for all generations of Latine theatre artists, and we highly encourage the new generation to join us, connect, and be in community. Bring a program, poster, or memorabilia from any Latine theatre production you’ve been a part of, and let’s build a Chicago Latine Theatre Timeline together! Even if you haven’t been part of the industry yet, you’re welcome—come listen, learn, and be part of the conversation. Let’s reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and imagine the future of Latine theatre in our city.
